Dr Con Kennedy Appointed Judge for Seven Mills Community Fund

Seven Mills is a new town currently being built beside the Grand Canal, between Clondalkin and Lucan in Dublin 22.

The Seven Mills Community Fund is awarding grants to local community groups in the arts, music and culture, sports and recreation, education, social advocacy, wellness, neighbourhood initiatives, and social, youth, and senior sectors. The grants are structured to positively empower successful local groups working to impact Dublin 22 through their volunteering efforts.

Local groups are encouraged to apply before the application deadline on 20th December 2024.

Seven awards will be available to the successful applicants:

  • 1 x up to €10,000

  • 1 x up to €5,000

  • 5 x up to €3,000

Grants will be awarded to community projects deemed innovative and clever, and that make a real difference for the local community.

The judging panel tasked with choosing the successful projects consists of Aideen Darcy (Neighbourhood Network), Kenneth Egan (former Olympian), Maura Winston (Cairn Homes), and Dr Con Kennedy (TU Dublin, School of Art and Design).

Ellenfield Community College Visit

As part of community outreach, Dr Kennedy will speak with pupils from Ellenfield Community College on November 22nd about a career in the creative sector. Dr Kennedy will talk about students from Ms Hayes' art class and discuss their options for study at the TU Dublin School of Art and Design.

5X5 Vermillion Graphic Design Symposium

In celebration of Vermillion Design Consultants' 25th anniversary, founder Anne Brady has organised a design symposium.

The symposium '5x5' will feature five distinguished speakers from the graphic design industry, including Jack Smyth, a Freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator;
Mary Doherty of Red Dog Design Consultants;
Dr Con Kennedy of TU Dublin School of Art & Design;
Colin Farmer and Noelle Cooper of Unthink;
Caitlin Quinn of Vermillion Design.

Each creative will talk about four design assignments that inspired or changed their career, plus one design project they wish had never happened! Whether you're a seasoned designer or just starting, this graphic design symposium is the perfect opportunity to network, learn from industry experts, and hear about career-changing projects, including some that went astray. A retrospective exhibition of Vermillion's work will be on display.

Join us for an afternoon of creativity, innovation, and inspiration at City Assembly House, 58 William St, Dublin 2, on Saturday, 14th September, 2024, from 2 pm.

Design Management Institute: 2024 ADMC Conference

In August, Dr Con Kennedy will speak at the Design Management Institute 2024 Academic Design Management conference at TU Delft. Dr Kennedy is the only Irish academic researcher speaking at this international design management conference and will present a research paper called "A Business Model for Communication Design Enterprises”.

TU Dublin Sustainability Education Symposium

5th June 2024

Dr Con Kennedy will speak at TU Dublin's first Sustainability Education Symposium, which will take place on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, in the Central Quad at the Grangegorman campus. Dr Kennedy will discuss how the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were integrated into an existing design module delivered on the BA in Visual Communication Design. The symposium is an opportunity for educators from across the University to hear from colleagues and share teaching, learning, and assessment practices that support the development of sustainability-focused global citizens.

Dr Con Kennedy Appointed External Examiner SETU

Dr Con Kennedy was appointed external examiner for SETU's MA and Post Graduate Diploma in Interaction Design. Dr Kennedy will participate in this role for three years.

Hidden Scientists/Hidden Creatives Exhibition

24th April 2024

Hidden Scientists/Hidden Creatives is a poster exhibition about underrepresented women in STEM and Design.

As part of the Design and Career Management Module, second-year BA in Visual Communication Design students have crafted posters about women in STEM, drawing inspiration from influential female designers.

The exhibition was opened by Professor John Doran, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Health and acting President of TU Dublin and runs 24-27 April 2024, East Quad Atrium, TU Dublin, City Campus, Grangegorman.

Dublin Canvas - Public Art

1st July 2023

Dr Con Kennedy will participate in the Dublin Canvas public art project. Dublin Canvas brightens public infrastructure with colourful art and design. Dr Kennedy honoured the achievements of the former professional cyclist Martin Earley, a retired professional cyclist from Blanchardstown who competed in the 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games. Between 1986 and 1989, Earley won stages in the Giro d'Italia in the Tour of the Basque Country and the Tour De France.
