Launch of Policy Framework for Design In Enterprise in Ireland

The Department of Enterprise Innovation and Jobs has launched the Policy Framework for Design In Enterprise in Ireland. This is the first Irish Government policy on design since the Design in Ireland Report (also known as the Scandinavian Report) in 1962. Con Kennedy contributed key research on the size of the design sector in Ireland to this Government Policy.

Iterations wins IDI/ID2015 Special Award for Collaboration in Design

Iterations has won the ID2015 Special Award for collaboration at the Institute of Designers of Ireland Annual Awards. Con Kennedy is a founder, editor and reviewer of Iterations and the design editor of this double-blind peer-review journal.

For The Record: An Exhibition of 100 Iconic Album Covers
25th November 2015
“For the Record” is a new exhibition of 100 iconic album covers. Con Kennedy, Dr PJ White, and Hilary Dempsey curate the exhibition. IT Carlow's MA in Interaction Design students undertook the exhibition system and experiential design. The exhibition runs from 25th November as part of Design Week.

Design in Ireland Workshop - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation
16th November 2016
The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (DJEI) hosted a workshop on 16 November 2016. Representatives from industry, industry associations, design-sector associations, enterprise agencies, academia and the policy system were invited to the workshop.
At this workshop, rapporteur Con Kennedy will present the draft research findings from ”The Profile of the Design-intensive Sector in Ireland” study commissioned by DCCoI/ID2015.

Issue two of Iterations: Journal and Practice Review has just been published. Con Kennedy is the Design Editor, Reviewer and Co-Founder.

1st November 2015
Con Kennedy will present a research poster and oral presentation entitled “Visual Communication Design: Practices and Practitioners” at the 5th Annual Postgraduate Research Symposium, DIT, Focas Research Institute.

Con Kennedy Appointed as Principal Investigator for DCCI Research Report
18th June 2015
The Design and Crafts Council of Ireland has commissioned Con Kennedy to undertake a research report into Design Enterprise in Ireland as part of ID2015. The Department of Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation is conducting this research. Con Kennedy's research will contribute to an Irish Government policy framework on design in Ireland.

Con Kennedy will chair the industry panel workshop at the Faultlines Conference.

The Problems With Creativity
5th June 2015
Con Kennedy will present a paper entitled “The Problems With Creativity” at the Faultlines Conference on Friday, 5th June. Con will also chair the Industry Panel on Saturday, 6th June. Faultlines is the inaugural Irish Design Research Conference, which will be held in the Dargan Centre at the Institute of Technology Carlow.

Launch of New Irish Design Research Journal
2nd April 2015
Con Kennedy and colleagues from IT Carlow, DIT, University of Limerick, Maynooth University and the University of Ulster have founded a new peer-reviewed journal focusing on Irish design and Design research.
Con will be the Co-Editor, Design Editor and Reviewer of Iterations: Design Research and Practice Review.
